One of our long-term commercial clients spotted an opportunity within Jean Nouvel’s award-winning Central Park development to strategically position two of his childcare centres.

This particular centre would be located in the DUO building in the lower portion of this mixed-use development. With an amazing shell to work with, this was a truly exciting interiors project for us.

Design response

One of our long-term commercial clients identified a strategic opportunity within Jean Nouvel’s award-winning Central Park development to position two of their childcare centers. This particular center, situated in the lower portion of the DUO building within this vibrant mixed-use development, provided an extraordinary shell to work with. It became an exhilarating interiors project for the ArtMade team, full of potential to create a truly unique space.

Child-centred concept

The design aimed to craft an engaging and imaginative space that could replicate the feel of an outdoor play environment despite being indoors.

  • Spanning a single level with no outdoor areas, the challenge was to craft an indoor environment that would replicate the feel of an outdoor play area.
  • A fabricated play area was designed to stimulate the senses, providing both amenity and aesthetic appeal.
  • The playful angular concrete façade served as inspiration, guiding the creation of unique, cubby-like internal play spaces.
  • The design aimed to evoke a sense of wonder and exploration, encouraging children to interact with their surroundings.

Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.

Innovative interiors

The interior design focused on creating a bright, child-friendly environment that combined modern aesthetics with practical functionality.

  • Natural light: Large windows flood the space with natural light, creating an uplifting and inviting atmosphere.
  • Material contrast: A combination of wooden flooring and concrete walls adds warmth and durability, providing a balance of textures.
  • Flexible zones: The open layout features adaptable areas with child-sized furniture and soft textures, fostering a versatile learning and play environment.
  • Accessible storage: Thoughtfully designed storage options are at child-friendly heights, encouraging independence and organization.
  • Colour palette: A soothing palette of soft blues is balanced by vibrant, colourful toys and decor, ensuring a visually stimulating yet calming space.
  • Playful elements: Rounded shapes, modular furniture, and cozy nooks ensure safety and autonomy, supporting both active play and cognitive development.
  • The interior fosters a welcoming, well-designed environment that meets the needs of children while supporting their growth and creativity.
