The client entrusted us to create their dream home to accommodate both their family’s needs and those of their cherished guests—with consideration to outdoor living with the existing swimming pool, garden and landscaped front yards.
Design response
We consciously zoned the residence to dedicate the ground level to the childrens and guest bedrooms, as well as the shared spaces. Level one is dedicated to the main bedroom suite and home office.
Throughout the home, we paid special attention to maximising light while maintaining privacy—and providing visual connections to outdoor natural elements.
Design overview
We approached spatial design with the goal to match quality with function, maintain connections between indoor and outdoor and maximise natural light:
- We enforced the internal zoning with two gable roofs; the solid mass to the sides provides visual privacy in the bedrooms.
- The transparent form provides visual connection between indoor and outdoor.
- The glazed spaces have been screened to provide protection during the warmer seasons.
- We situated the living space to allow high-level north-facing windows for additional light. The space is also connected to the outdoors on four sides: landscaping on two ends, a decked area at level one and a skylight.
- Through an internal window over the living, the pool is also visible from this space.
- The main suite on level one has its own private courtyard and glazing that frames Chatswood’s city skyline.
- The guest bedroom also has a visual connection to the existing swimming pool and garden.
- The children’s bedrooms have their own study and ensuite, and maintain a visual connection to the landscaped front yards.
- Interiors seamlessly connect with the surrounding environment with the combination of sturdy concrete walls and warm timbers.
Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.
