The clients are residential developers who wanted to diversify their portfolio. The proposal served as a transition development between the high-rise multi-residences to the west and the two-story walk-ups to the east.
Design response
We opted for a sympathetic response to the existing multi-residential precinct. We designed two structures, each only two-storeys tall, with a ‘break’ in the form to humanise the scale and mark the entry to the centre. A simple render finish complements the free-flowing form, while considering time and cost. Our design prioritises natural light and a feeling of calm amidst the multi-residences.
Child-centred concept
To create a sense of openness and tranquillity amidst the built living environment:
- We created a central courtyard easily accessible and visually connected from all indoor playrooms.
- Each playroom has a light well and we've taken utmost care to prevent shadowing of private open spaces.
- We used free-flowing, curved shapes throughout to avoid sharp edges and create an organic, natural feel.
Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.
Innovative interiors
We meticulously designed the interior spaces to continue the connection to nature:
- Integrated joinery has been carefully placed to align with the building's form, preserving natural light and visual vistas.
- We selected furnishings that continue the free-flowing, curved shapes of the exterior.
- Each playroom features deep soil planter boxes under the light wells with adjacent seating—so children can interact with educators, stay connected to nature and enjoy sunlight.
