A corner lot within a new subdivision enabled us to explore a concept that seamlessly integrates into the neighbourhood, fostering positive community relationships.
Design response
Our design prioritised functionality and harmony with surroundings. Drawing inspiration from the neighbouring Bella Vista Public School’s H-form building, we conceptualised rectilinear modules to address site-specific issues.
We retained the rear block as single-storey to reduce bulk and ensure harmony with neighbouring buildings.
The composition creates a heavily articulated facade, both visually striking from the street and internally.
Child-centred concept
To create a welcoming and playful environment for children:
- We meticulously designed for natural light and cross-ventilation in every playroom.
- The rectilinear modules act as acoustic barriers to minimise noise, ensuring a calm and focused atmosphere for learning and play.
- The middle module connects fluidly to the central outdoor play area.
Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.
Innovative interiors
To create an environment that feels safe and familiar for children:
- We repeated motifs of the home throughout; the shape appears in joinery elements and on the walls and ceilings.
- We used warm timbers and low-height soffits for a cosy atmosphere.
