Design responses
The design process was inspired by a simple residential house form: three modest single-storey pavilions, each with an asymmetrical gable end showcasing floor-to-ceiling glazing. Our vision established and enhanced the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Child-centred design
For a rich and engaging environment:
- We let the existing trees dictate the staggered layout of the pavilions—and designed large openings at each end to not only frame them but allow sunlight into each playroom.
- Each structure has covered verandas to continue the seamless interface between indoor and outdoor spaces.
- We created a light-filled path down the central core of the site for fluid circulation for staff, children and parents.
- This path also provides physical and visual connections between the children and their surroundings.
- We ensured that all indoor playrooms have a minimum of two facades for natural cross-ventilation.
- Simple, cost-effective and durable materials are used for the pavilions, ensuring simple construction and low maintenance.

Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.
Innovative interiors
To create a welcoming ambiance and celebrate the connection between nature and learning:
- Our design brought outside elements indoors.
- Our interior joinery mimics the exterior’s angles for cohesion.
- Warm timber accents soften the sleek exterior.
