Design overview
ArtMade Architects was commissioned by residential developers to design a dual occupancy on a long and narrow site with a challenging 2.5m-3m fall from the street to the rear. The site’s proportions and constraints presented a unique opportunity for ArtMade to create an innovative and thoughtfully designed development. The primary design strategy involved positioning the main circulation and access centrally within each dwelling, optimizing the available width and maximizing the floor area for habitable spaces.
Design response
ArtMade responded to the site's topography and width limitations by incorporating courtyards and terraces into the design, creating a sense of serenity and calmness throughout the dwellings with lush landscaping visible from every room. To enhance luxury, a void was introduced over the living space, connecting to the rear yard and enhancing the sense of spaciousness. The material palette was carefully chosen to maintain a refined and timeless aesthetic, using neutral bagged brick as the primary material, complemented by accentuated timber elements.
