After collaborating on several residential projects, the client engaged ArtMade Architects to design their own waterfront home. The site offers direct views of Gwawley Bay, and the residence needed to take full advantage of this. The brief called for a welcoming family home suited for gatherings. However, additional challenges arose from the foreshore authority’s setbacks, along with council regulations.
Design response
The residence was carefully planned with ‘public’ living spaces on the ground floor and ‘private’ bedrooms on the first floor. Central to the design is a double-height formal living area and entry, establishing a strong visual connection to the water. This approach allows waterviews to be experienced from both the living rooms and the bedrooms. The Bay is located to the south, so highlight glazing was introduced on the northern side to ensure ample natural light fills the living spaces.
Design overview
Key features of the residence include:
- The double-height formal living space expands into a covered outdoor deck, offering an uninterrupted view of the pool and Gwawley Bay.
- The master bedroom is centrally positioned on the first floor, complete with a private balcony overlooking the bay and offering a view into the double-height space below.
- North-facing highlight glazing allows abundant natural light into the living areas, enhancing the home's warmth and ambiance.
Arched vistas frame not just views but childhood wonder, infusing each play space with the elegance of discovery.
